The third or fourth attempt at a personal site, this time without the pressure to post.

This is the third or fourth version of this site. I've lost count, which probably says something.

The earlier ones didn't die from a lack of ideas. They died because I got tangled up in social media: sharing every post, watching the numbers, feeling like I had to keep up a pace. At some point writing became something I owed an algorithm, and the fun went out of it. So I stopped.

For a while I wondered whether a personal site could be interesting again. What settled it were questions. People kept asking me about things like my Linux setup or which podcasts I listen to. Each time I answered in a chat message that scrolled away a day later, and each time I wished I had something to point them to: a page where they could read the details, follow links to the tools and shows, and get my actual opinion on them, not just a list.

That is what this version is for. It's less a blog and more a journal, or a pile of loose notes that might be useful to someone.

There are two kinds of things here. Posts, like this one, are finished and dated. Notes grow over time, get revised when something changes, and link to each other. My Linux setup and the Podcasts I listen to will be the first ones. If those links look muted, they're not written yet.

There's no schedule, no newsletter, no share buttons. If something stands out from the noise, it ends up here. If nothing does, nothing will.
